Michael Dreeben Argues Former Presidents Not Above The Law

U.S. President Biden meets with former President Jimmy Carter in Plains, Georgia

Michael Dreeben, a seasoned Supreme Court advocate, is set to present arguments on behalf of special counsel Jack Smith before the nine justices. Dreeben will assert that there is no historical or legal basis for granting immunity to a former president from prosecution. His aim is to emphasize the principle that no individual, including ex-presidents, is exempt from the law.

With over 100 cases argued before the Supreme Court, Dreeben is widely recognized as an expert in criminal law. His extensive experience includes more than three decades at the solicitor general's office, where he handled appellate cases for the federal government.

This is not Dreeben's first involvement with a special counsel. In 2017, he joined Robert Mueller's team investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Anecdotes highlighting Dreeben's familiarity with the Supreme Court abound. In a well-known incident, he faced off against John Roberts, who later became the chief justice, in his inaugural case in 1989.

During his initial two-minute presentation, Dreeben will lay out his arguments before fielding inquiries from the justices. His track record and expertise in criminal law make him a formidable presence in the courtroom, poised to make a compelling case for upholding the rule of law.
