Fans recently gathered at the Linwood Dunn Theatre in Hollywood to attend a screening of the new Apple TV+ limited series, 'Franklin.' The series delves into Benjamin Franklin's journey to France in 1776 to seek support for America's fight for independence. Based on Stacy Schiff's book, 'A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America,' the show also explores the dynamic between Franklin and his grandson Temple, portrayed by Michael Douglas and Noah Jupe, respectively.

Director Tim Van Patten, who helmed all eight episodes, shared insights during a post-screening Q&A session. He described the challenges of shooting a period piece in Europe, highlighting the meticulous attention to detail that went into recreating the historical setting. The production involved elaborate sets, hundreds of background actors in period attire, and the use of authentic props like carriages.

Noah Jupe, who plays Temple, drew parallels between his own teenage experiences in Europe and his character's journey. He humorously alluded to his time in Paris, hinting at shared experiences with Temple.

The collaboration between Douglas and Jupe was a focal point of discussion. Jupe praised Douglas for his dedication to his craft, noting his professionalism and ability to connect with fellow cast members. Douglas, in turn, expressed admiration for Franklin as a historical figure, emphasizing the character's multifaceted accomplishments and enduring legacy.

The series stands out for its unique approach to language, with much of the dialogue delivered in French accompanied by English subtitles. Van Patten and Douglas highlighted the significance of this linguistic choice in fostering a sense of international collaboration and cultural exchange.

Overall, the screening event offered fans a glimpse into the creative process behind 'Franklin' and the compelling performances of its cast. With its blend of historical drama, intricate storytelling, and cross-cultural themes, the series promises to captivate audiences with its exploration of Benjamin Franklin's pivotal role in shaping American history.
