The series delves into Benjamin Franklin's journey to France in 1776 to seek support for America's fight for independence. Based on Stacy Schiff's book, 'A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America,' the show also explores the dynamic between Franklin and his grandson Temple, portrayed by Michael Douglas and Noah Jupe, respectively.
Director Tim Van Patten, who helmed all eight episodes, shared insights during a post-screening Q&A session. He described the challenges of shooting a period piece in Europe, highlighting the meticulous attention to detail that went into recreating the historical setting. The production involved elaborate sets, hundreds of background actors in period attire, and the use of authentic props like carriages.
