Pecker explained that Cohen would contact him with requests to run negative articles about specific individuals, such as Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, or Marco Rubio. Cohen would then provide information on the target, which served as the basis for the stories published by the tabloid. Pecker testified that the National Enquirer would then embellish the information provided by Cohen to create sensationalized articles.
