Michael Carter-Williams on playing with Rajon Rondo for Bulls

The NBA’s 2013-14 Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams might have won that award with the Philadelphia 76ers, but when it comes to who the now-Mexico City Capitanes guard sees as the teams to beat in the East this season, two other ball clubs come to mind. “I like the (Milwaukee) Bucks, I like the (Boston) Celtics,” said Carter-Williams to the Celtics Wire after the Capitanes’ first open practice of the 2023-24 season. “I like those two coming out of the East, to battle to come out of the East.”

Playing in the Mexican Capital’s G League squad to work his way back to the Association, MCW might be partial to the Bucks given he cut his teeth in the league there, but might also like Boston after seeing his former Chicago Bulls teammate helping to coach the Celtics in training camp this fall.

“Rondo was good, I learned a lot from him,” said Carter-Williams. “Just as far as watching film with the knowledge of the game.”

“He was great,” emphasized the Capitanes guard. “He was a great leader. He was a great veteran presence on our team. He helped us win a lot of games there.”

Including a first-round playoff series Boston fans likely would rather forget, with the Celtics going down 0-2 to Rondo’s Bulls with the help of MCW, Jimmy Butler, and Dwyane Wade until Rondo was injured in Game 2.

Indeed he did.
