Michael Bublé ends Durham show with joke about crowd's 'drinking problem'

Just Haven't Met You Yet singer Michael Bublé was on fine form at Durham Riverside this week where local fans finally got to see the show they had been promised in 2020.

The current An Evening with Michael Bublé tour is four-time Grammy Award winner's first series of open-air concerts and the Chester-le-Street cricket ground has been on its list ever since his hit 2019 show at Newcastle's Utilita Arena. Having been postponed due to the pandemic, it got under way on Wednesday night with the star clearly keen to make up for lost time.

Referencing everything from the weather to rising oil prices hitting our pockets, he packed in a wide range of covers alongside his own work, all peppered with jokes along the way. His wife and family too were there to enjoy a performance that was as polished and professional as ever but full of fun.

A sudden collapse of a fan in front of the stage - followed quickly by another elsewhere in the crowd - gave him pause for thought and he wanted to stop and wait until he was assured everyone was fine.

So when he was, he went on to joke 'am I too sexy?', after revealing now he'd had people pass out at his previous shows too. And he went on to wrap up the night on a high, telling fans at his encore: "As I came backstage I said to my people 'this is the third time in four nights that people have passed out. I said 'am I too sexy'?

"They said 'no'." He added: "So I have to tell you, as much as I love you and it hurts me, I think you have a drinking problem! In saying that, let me just thank you, for making me feel I'm at home in Canada with my own drunkards. We also have a problem!"

And the message, greeted by cheers, was may it long the carry on. "People will continue passing out and that's how we know they had a good time at the Bublé show."

He ended by thanking people and said: "I do love you. I'm going to be back with a killer show again and I can't wait."
