Michael Beale sends Rangers transfer sleuths into overdrive as punters certain Rome trip is no holiday

Michael Beale has sent Rangers transfer sleuths into overdrive after sharing a photo appearing to show him in Rome on his verified Instagram account.

The Ibrox boss has had to take recruitment matters into his own hands following the sudden departure of sporting director Ross Wilson to Nottingham Forest last week. And just 24 hours after the Englishman said in an interview that he wants to meet potential signing targets face to face, Beale looks to be in the Italian capital.

Roma are in action on Thursday night as Jose Mourinho’s Serie A side take on Feyenoord in the second leg of their Europa League quarter final tie as the Italians attempt to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg in Rotterdam. Beale, of course, could be taking some time away or maybe he fancies watching one of his old pupils, ex-Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, in action.

But that would seem unlikely with Rangers preparing for a trip to Pittodrie on Sunday so any trips abroad would surely be strictly business at this crucial period of chasing transfer targets. Beale said in an interview with Ibrox strike legend Ally McCoist on talkSPORT on Wednesday: “Every day off and moment in the schedule that allows I’ve been travelling to meet people. I’m quite fussy. I like to meet players and see them face to face.”
