Michael Beale reckons Ange Postecoglou is a lucky man having the cash he needs to reinforce his Celtic squad.
But the Celtic faithful calling the Hotline are adamant it's got nothing to do with luck. Instead, they've told the Rangers gaffer that the Aussie has only been able to reinvest a small fortune in his squad because of the prudent moves the Parkhead club have made in the transfer market.
Charles Buchanan was first up to say: “It’s a cheap shot by Beale and is disrespectful of Ange. Saying he's lucky he can spend money and thinks that is the only reason for his success. Does he not remember that David Murray was the only reason Rangers got nine in a row? And he thinks it will take him three windows to get the squad he wants. He might not get that long as excuses, excuses, excuses don't get you success. Celtic have been excellent and sold players for great profit. And Ange has been brilliant in his recruitment.”
Eddie Easson, Ballingry, added: “So Beale is already greeting and making the excuses. The man loves talking to the press listening to his own voice. Now he's jealous of big Ange buying players. Celtic can do this because they know how to run a football club and live within their means. Sell and buy at the right time. Rangers should have punted Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos last year but instead that pair will now be kissing the badge as they head to the bank to check their balance.”
And Henry Moffat, Stirling, rang to say: “Beale is once again talking garbage, Ange Postecoglou has only spent the money our club got when he lost £40million worth of talent to the Premiership, so his net spend is zero. And as for deluded Rangers fans saying they dominated us in last week’s derby, we had 61 percent possession to their 39 percent and they still couldn’t beat us with their usual helping hand from VAR - video assisting Rangers!”
The Old Firm fallout from Connor Goldson’s controversial handball incident shows no sign of dying down a week on from last week’s 2-2 draw. Mark McGill, Glasgow, said: “Celtic should be fined over their comments about the correct Goldson decision. And instead of newspaper reporters letting their emotions get in the way, they should be explaining to their fellow Celtic fans the rule on why it definitely was not a penalty! Celtic and their supporters need to stop this VARaphobia!”
Ian Denny emailed in: “I must say Celtic and Ange are playing this VAR card very cleverly. The Goldson incident could have gone either way. In the end the ref and VAR officials justified their reason for not giving a penalty. Who knows what could have happened if it was given, a goal, a save and breakaway for Rangers to score? Now Ange has VAR officials ready to give Celtic decisions through pressure. Typical Celtic.”
The Hoops maintained their ceaseless pace at the top as they saw off Kilmarnock on Saturday. But David Bryce, Troon, wasn’t exactly bowled over, saying: “Celtic did well to beat a stuffy Kilmarnock side but there is no doubt we are far too profligate in front of goal! Giorgos Giakoumakis is a terrible finisher and really needs to up his game. Bar a decent start from Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Daizen Maeda and Rio Hatate are the only ones playing well. I think the rest are woefully off form!”
Rangers fan Chris Lowe, Yoker, couldn’t resist a pop either, emailing in: “I see Josip Juronavic has been dropped again, just like he has been for half the season for Anthony Ralston. I’m convinced Celtic don’t want to play him as the myth he’s a good player will be exposed just like it was at Ibrox last week. They’re just hoping some mug falls for the hype they generated on the back of one good game in the World Cup.”
