Michael Beale REJECTS Wolves approach as QPR manager stays put with Championship leaders

QPR have received a huge boost after their manager Michael Beale rejected an approach from Wolves.

Wolves had made Beale their No1 target to replace Bruno Lage, who was sacked this month, and on Thursday morning contacted QPR to make an official approach.

Beale, however, has turned down the west Midlands club, who are in the Premier League’s relegation places, in favour of staying at QPR - who are top of the Championship.

Having built a strong reputation as a youth coach at Liverpool, and then on Steven Gerrard’s staff at Rangers and Aston Villa, Beale has impressed in his first managerial job.

He was appointed only in June but has transformed QPR in that time, with a 3-0 win over Cardiff last night sending them into first place of the Championship.

Beale joined on a three-year contract and the Rs would have been due around £1million in compensation if he had left.

QPR want to build under Beale and he stressed last night how he would not rush away from the club unless it was right.

“Football is about feelings and relationships,” he said. “We’ve built strong relationships here. I took the decision to turn my phone off [before the Cardiff match] because we had this game to concentrate on.

“I haven’t spoken to [QPR director of football] Les Ferdinand or anyone, so as far as I’m aware nothing has changed. The moment Les speaks to me, I’ll know one way or another.

“If an offer comes in officially, you don’t have to take it. You have to weigh up everything. There are a lot of questions you need to get answers to.

“It’s 100 per cent a dream of mine to manage in the Premier League — that’s not a secret — but it has to be the right opportunity, the right moment and the right club.”
