Michael Beale makes Rangers Champions League 'bonus' call ahead of deadline day

Michael Beale insists the money banked from Champions League qualification would be a ‘bonus’ to Rangers as he prepares for the final days of transfer business this summer.

The Englishman has overhauled his Ibrox squad in recent weeks as nine players have arrived at the club and further reinforcements could be brought on board before the close of the window.

Rangers have given themselves a shot at a Champions League berth on the back of their 2-2 draw with PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday evening.

The return leg is sandwiched by hugely significant Premiership clashes with Ross County and Celtic and the final days of wheeling and dealing.

Beale said: “We just focus on this one against Ross County and the stuff in the background can wait.

“What I would say is the club base the finances based on being in the Europa League and the Champions League is then seen as a bonus.

“So the pressure, the expectation, is purely a football one and an achievement one. If the finance comes on top then great but we are not going to have to chop and change our squad accordingly if it didn’t go our way.

“It is fantastic for me, the players, the fans and the staff because we can focus on trying to have a huge achievement. The most important thing for us, and it always is, is domestic competition and therefore [the Ross County game] is vitally important.”

Rangers are set to receive another cash injection in the coming days as midfielder Glen Kamara gets set to complete his move to Leeds United.

The Championship side will pay around £5million for Kamara and Beale said: “I am not involved in the direct negotiations, but I believe something is close. We will comment on that and give Glen the comment on his time at Rangers if that was to go through. It is a little bit premature for me to talk about it.

“I think something should happen this week. If it doesn’t Glen will be here and be integrated back into the squad.”
