Michael Beale confirms Rangers interest in Swansea City's Morgan Whittaker as bid rejected

Rangers boss Michael Beale has confirmed the club are interested in signing Swansea City's Morgan Whittaker this month.

However, he has suggested a deal hasn't yet moved forward.

WalesOnline understands the Swans rejected a bid from Scottish giants for the 22-year-old on Friday, and club insiders have today indicated that the situation hasn't yet changed. At the time of writing, Rangers were yet to return to the table, but they clearly remain interested in the former Derby County starlet.

"Whittaker is a player we know and like but there’s no update on that," Beale said. "I think he is a good player.

"We are looking at all areas, we want to bring more goals into the club. I'm really pleased with how things are moving, we are going in the right direction.

"I don't want any short-term gaps, we want players who can make a big impact moving forward into 2023 and 2024 onwards. It's important any decisions we make are the right ones."

Reports elsewhere have claimed Whittaker is keen on the move, but the two clubs are currently apart on their valuation of the player, whose stock has risen on the back of a superb short loan spell at League One leaders Plymouth Argyle.

Whittaker netted nine goals in 25 league appearances for the Pilgrims, before being recalled by the Swans earlier in the month.

Plymouth later confirmed they had looked at the possibility of trying to tie the player down to a permament deal to keep him at Home Park, but a move never materialised.

Indeed, the chances of the forward moving back to League One now appear slim, with the likes of Plymouth and Ipswich, who were also credited with interest, likely to be priced out of a move.
