Micah Richards warns Liverpool over £55m Benfica striker after Champions League draw

Liverpool have been sent a warning over their Champions League draw by former Manchester City star Micah Richards.

The Reds were drawn against Portuguese side Benfica for the quarter-final of the competition, and will face either Villarreal or Bayern Munich should they claim victory in the last eight.

Benfica reached the quarter-final after claiming a 3-2 aggregate victory over Ajax in their last-16 tie. After the first leg ended in a 2-2 draw, a late Darwin Nunez goal secured a 1-0 second leg victory to see the Primeira Liga club progress to the quarter-final.

Reflecting on the draw, Richards explained why he thinks Liverpool fans will be happy with the outcome. However, the Sky Sports pundit went on to send a warning to the Reds.

“Liverpool fans will have been delighted at how the Champions League draw panned out but let me provide a word of warning,” Richards told the Mail Online .

“Darwin Nunez has caught my eye all year and he came up trumps for Benfica once again, to send them into the last eight.

“Nunez scored his 26th goal of the season and is only 22. He is tall, strong, he runs in behind and knows how to finish.

“He’s scored against Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Ajax so far — don’t discount him doing the same against Liverpool.”

Liverpool themselves have been linked with a move for Nunez, with reports suggesting that Benfica value the striker at £55m.
