Micah Richards brutally mocks Thierry Henry after Hudson River challenge ends badly

Thierry Henry has been mocked on his return to New York, after he lost a football in the Hudson River during a challenge with Micah Richards.

Henry returned to the Big Apple with CBS Sports co-host Richards, and the pair took on a risky crossbar challenge by the Hudson River. The Frenchman has aged like a fine wine, so of course completed the challenge, but it didn't go to plan.

The ball then ricocheted off the bar and into the river, much the amusement of Richards. The former Manchester City star was howling at the blunder, rubbing salt into the wound for Henry.

Henry is an icon in New York after starring for the New York Red Bulls between 2010-2014. But it's probably the first time one of his efforts on goal has ended up in the water.

The Frenchman scored 51 goals in 122 MLS appearances for the Red Bulls before calling time on his career. And Henry even won a Supporters Shield in 2013, two years before their rivals New York City FC were added to the division.

Henry looked displeased with Richards as he so often does when the former City star bursts into laughter. But that didn't stop fans swarming to him when given the chance.

This didn't come as a surprise though, as Henry touched on how supportive the Red Bulls fans were when reflecting on his career in 2020. "You always get the love of the Red Bulls fans," Henry said. "Wherever I go, they let me know. I like people in New York because they let you know what’s what. That’s me."

Henry was happy to win a Supporters Shield, but according to former strike partner Bradley Wright-Phillips, the side didn't use the Frenchman enough. "My time at Red Bull, when you were there, I don’t think we used you enough, Wright-Phillips said to Henry.

"We should’ve used you more as a voice, someone you get advice from. I think they could’ve used you a bit better." The Red Bulls are yet to win an MLS Cup, something their new rivals NYCFC have managed despite being formed just eight years ago.
