Even though the NFL field of competition can make friends occasional foes, it’s always nice to see that pivot back to friendless at the final buzzer.
That was the case between Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa after the two teams clashed on Sunday in Santa Clara.
While it’d be Burrow’s team to get the 31-17 victory over Bosa’s team, the former Ohio State teammates met after the game for a hug, with Bosa dropping in a great description of how his bye week might go after the 49ers dropped a third-straight game.
“Hell of a game, [but the loss] made our bye week trash, though,” Bosa joked to Burrow as they met. “If anybody could do it, I’d want you to.”

The 49ers will get a week off before heading down to Jacksonville to play the Jaguars, and we have no doubt it’ll be a tough week of reflection after a 5-0 start has turned into a 5-3 record for San Francisco.
Injuries haven’t helped, but neither has running into a Bengals team that seems to be playing much more like we expected at the beginning of the year.
At the least, it’s great to see old Buckeye buddies in Burrow and Bosa get to catch up briefly and get a good laugh in as the game ended.
