LeBron James may have leaked some of his future plans during the 2023 NBA All-Star Game. While mic'd up during the first half of the game, the Lakers star seemingly hinted at how much longer he plans to be around in the league.
The 38-year-old is approaching the end of his career, and he may have dropped the biggest hint yet as to when he's going to officially call it quits.
"I gotta slow down. Couple more years," said James, who, at 38 years old, is playing in his 19th NBA All-Star Game. He's tied with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most of any player in the league's history, and set a record on Sunday evening for the most consecutive All-Star appearances.
Despite his age, LeBron is as effective as ever on the court. While the Lakers have struggled, James is averaging 30 points per game, showing no signs of slowing down. Still, LeBron's iconic career could be approaching its end, if that's truly what he was hinting at with his eye-opening comments Sunday night.
During his media address ahead of the All-Star Game, James expressed his desire to be available for each of the Lakers' remaining 23 games, which he described as the being among the most important of his career. With his curtain call potentially on the horizon, missing out on the playoffs for the second consecutive year would be a big blow for LeBron.
Of course, the Lakers superstar has not shied away from his desire to potentially play with his son, Bronny, should he make it to the NBA. Bronny is currently a senior at Sierra Canyon HS, and could potentially reach the league in two years, if things go to plan, adding some intrigue to James's prospective retirement timeline.
