A Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with causing death by careless driving in connection with the death of an 81-year-old woman in west London. The incident occurred last year when the woman was struck by a motorcycle that was part of an escort for the Duchess of Edinburgh.
The Crown Prosecution Service has charged Christopher Harrison, 67, following a review of the evidence conducted by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). The victim, Helen Holland, sustained serious injuries after being hit at an intersection on May 10, 2023, and tragically passed away two weeks later.
Reports indicate that Helen Holland suffered multiple broken bones and massive internal injuries as a result of the collision. Following her death, Sophie, the wife of Prince Edward, offered her condolences to the Holland family.
Christopher Harrison is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on November 6 to address the charges brought against him. The case has garnered significant attention due to the circumstances surrounding the incident and the involvement of a police officer in the tragic event.
