There are currently no Metro trains between North Shields and Manors due to a broken down train near Howdon.
Tyne and Wear Metro confirmed at around 9am on Tuesday that all trains between the two stations are cancelled at the moment.
Replacement buses are running though it will see extra time added to all journeys.
Metro tickets are accepted in the affected area on Stagecoach bus services 12, 22, 39, 40, 62, 63 and 317 between North Shields and Monument, while Go North East is accepting Metro tickets in the same area on its 1 service.
It means there are disruptions to other destinations, with Nexus, which operates the Metro, saying: “Passengers travelling towards Whitley Bay and Tynemouth from Newcastle are advised to travel via South Gosforth.”
It is not yet known when the line will reopen but Nexus said it will stay shut “until further notice”.
