Metro 2039 doesn't launch until February 2027, yet it's already one of the most visible games at Gamescom 2026. The Gamescom Award 2026 nominations, announced August 24 ahead of Opening Night Live, gave 4A Games' upcoming shooter five nominations — more than any other title at the show, spanning Best Visuals, Most Epic, Best PC Game, Best Xbox Game, and Best PlayStation Game (Insider Gaming). Alien: Isolation 2 and the indie arcade title Denshattack! trail with four nominations each (Yahoo). It's worth being precise here: Metro 2039 hasn't won anything yet — public voting runs August 26–27, with winners announced later in the show. But leading every other game in nominations before release still raises an obvious question: what has 4A shown that's making this much of an impression this early?
