Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is finally getting a modern release as part of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.2, ending an 18-year period where the game was effectively tied to the PlayStation 3. And Bloodborne fans thought they had it rough.
Konami announced the collection during the Feb. 12 PlayStation State of Play, with the collection launching on Aug. 27, 2026.
Master Collection Vol.2 bundles Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, the HD Collection version of the PSP original, plus the series’ first portable title, Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, as a bonus game. Konami is also including digital extras across the package, like scenario and master books, as well as Metal Gear Solid: Digital Soundtrack Vol.2.
For MGS4 specifically, Konami is promising technical and control improvements, including higher internal resolution, higher maximum frame rate, and customizable button remapping. Beloved by many, Guns of the Patriots has been the least accessible major entry in the series without the original hardware, despite capturing the zeitgeist in the last 00’s.
Peace Walker also gets the modern changes: along with remappable buttons, the HD version supports online CO-OPS for two to four players and VERSUS OPS for up to six players. Sadly, there won’t be cross-platform play; only Switch and Switch 2 players will be able to play together because of the same ecosystem.

Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel is the final and least known entry in the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.2. It’s a completely original Game Boy Color version of the first Metal Gear Solid for PlayStation. Quality-of-Life changes were applied to this game as well, including screen filters, pixel-perfect settings, a rewind function, and, once again, remappable controls.
Incentives for the pre-order include in-game items like Cardboard Camouflage for MGS4 and a LOVE BOX uniform for Peace Walker. There’s also a save-data bonus tied to Master Collection Vol.1 that unlocks Gold Camouflage in MGS4 and a GOLD uniform in Peace Walker.
Additionally, some Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1 titles received visual enhancements that are already available today.
