Meta has agreed to pay up to $17.1 billion and impose sweeping curbs on teenagers' use of Facebook and Instagram, in a landmark US settlement that also spares chief executive Mark Zuckerberg from testifying in court.
The agreement, announced on 26 August 2026, resolves claims brought by 47 US states, the District of Columbia and several US territories over allegations that Facebook and Instagram were designed to keep young users hooked.
