Met spies rain & thunderstorm in Kolkata by weekend

KOLKATA: The long, scorching spell in Kolkata may end this weekend with a thunderstorm, said the Met office on Monday. Even as maximum temperature touched 34.8°C on a warm and humid Monday, weathermen predicted a system will form over the Bengal-Jharkhand region between Thursday and Sunday. Once it forms, a thunderstorm and rain in south Bengal, including Kolkata, is a possibility.

“We expect a system to develop that will attract moisture from the sea and lead to thunderstorms in south Bengal. Kolkata could receive rain and the temperature may slide,” said Regional Meteorological Centre director GK Das. He added that till the thunderstorm strikes, the scorching spell will continue and the maximum will continue to hover around the 35 degree Celsius-mark.
