Met Police officer sacked after admitting child sex offences in 'vilest of offences'

A Metropolitan Police officer has been sacked immediately after admitting to multiple child sex offences, the force has confirmed.

PC Hussain Chehab was dismissed without notice on Thursday after pleading guilty in a criminal court to what was described as "the vilest of offences" abusing his position of trust "in the most despicable of ways".

The Enfield-based cop admitted to the making of indecent images of children, some of which occurred while he was working as a Safer Schools officer.

Chehab admitted eight offences at Wood Green crown court in north London on Tuesday, including four of sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15, relating to offences which took place in 2019 before he joined the Met.

He also pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images and one count of engaging in sexual communication with a child.

Speaking after Thursday's decision, Detective Chief Superintendent Caroline Haines, lead for policing in Enfield said: “Following his criminal conviction it is right that PC Chehab is formally dismissed from the Met.

"PC Chehab committed the vilest of offences and abused his position of trust in the most despicable of ways.

"It continues to be incredibly confronting to see officers convicted and dismissed for such behaviour, however we are committed to rooting out officers who do not belong in our ranks and it is abundantly clear that PC Chehab has no place in the Met."

Details of the officer's offending came to light after a 16-year-old girl's family called police reporting their daughter was claiming to be in a "relationship" with him, which they believe began when she was 15.

He was arrested in August 2021, with his digital devices seized for investigation.

The force said Pc Chehab was was "immediately" removed from his role in schools - where he worked between May and August 2021.

Following his arrest, Pc Chehab continued to work for the force on restricted, office-based duties.

Screening of his devices however revealed he was in possession of indecent images of children, and the officer was immediately suspended. He was charged in September last year.

The investigation also found Pc Chehab had been messaging a girl, who, the force said, provided evidence to police that they had entered into a sexual relationship in 2019 when she was 14".

Det Chief Supt Haines added: "We have worked closely with the school concerned, and Enfield local authority, to ensure that there were no further unreported safeguarding incidents or missed opportunities.

"A review of the information provided to the Met prior to him joining as a police officer was carried out and nothing was found that could have indicated his offending.

"Likewise, prior to starting his role as a Safer Schools Officer he was also subject to further Child and Vulnerable Group Supervision vetting, in line with the current vetting standards for all those who work with children and young people.

"While no evidence has been found linking any of Chehab’s offending to his role, we are continuing to work with our local schools, community forums and independent advisory groups to reassure them following the damage his actions will have caused."

Chehab was bailed on Tuesday ahead of sentencing on March 17.

No verdict was recorded in a further four counts of making indecent photographs of a child and so the Judge ordered they be left to lie on file.

He was also added to the College of Policing's barred list, meaning he will never be able to serve in police again.
