Met Police officer injured by 'reckless' driver in A12 Redbridge pursuit

A police officer was left injured after a high-speed pursuit through east London on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident unfolded around 4.45pm when officers attempted to stop a grey Lexus on the A12 near Barley Lane in Redbridge.

The driver failed to comply, leading to a chase supported by the Roads and Transport Policing Command.

In an effort to halt the fleeing motorist, officers deployed a 'stinger' device. But the driver mounted the pavement, colliding with one of the officers before speeding away.

The suspect's vehicle was later discovered abandoned on the Kings Mead estate in Hackney.

The injured officer was rushed to hospital, where he remains under treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Detective Inspector Jonathan Potter, leading the investigation, said: “We need your help to identify the person who was driving this car.

“Did you see it between the A12 and where it was found in Hackney? Officers managed to smash one of the car's windows and this would have been visible to anyone who saw it.

“Our colleague was injured while trying to keep the public safe from a reckless and dangerous driver. Please help us to find him. No one should be hurt while simply doing their job.”
