The Met Office has forecast more spring-like weather for the week ahead in the UK due to "dangerously cold air" moving into parts of Canada and northeast USA and you can read more about that here. However, the long range forecast is predicting a chance of rather different conditions.
After a frosty start to February, temperatures have risen as an area of high pressure from the south takes charge and the week ahead is likely to experience temperatures reaching double figures of up to 12 degrees. There's also very little rain predicted in the forecast.
But don't put the umbrella or the thermal vest away just yet as the long range Met Office forecast for the UK looks set to plunge the country back into unsettled conditions and plummeting temperatures.

In the mid-term forecast that covers from February 16 to February 26, the Met Office predicts: "A low pressure system located to the northwest could bring widespread frontal activity, with the north and northwest expected to see the most unsettled conditions with spells of rain and stronger winds.
"The south and east are likely to see drier conditions, but more unsettled periods remain possible, bringing some wetter weather. Temperatures overall rather mild, but overnight frost could develop, especially in the south and east. But it's looking ahead, from February 26 to March 12, that the Met Office hints at a downturn and the chance of snow, with the weather producing a north-south split, with drier conditions across the north, whilst the south could see some wetter conditions.
"Temperatures are expected to be mostly around average, but a period of colder or much colder temperatures remains a small possibility, bringing widespread wintry conditions."
