Edinburgh's yellow weather warning for heavy snow has been cancelled this morning - but a new warning has been put in its place
Forecasters at the Met Office have updated their weather warning alerts at 9:25am this morning, citing that the "warning area has been curtailed in its northern extent to remove the Central Belt."
And now, a yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been implemented for the east coast, with icy patches and snowfall set to cause disruption. In the previous forecast, Edinburgh was expected to see between 15 and 20cm of snow fall over today and Friday - but a new reading has shown that light snow is more likely to hit at 4pm and stop by 8pm this evening.

The new yellow weather warning for Edinburgh
Edinburgh is now facing a yellow weather alert for snow and ice, as further snow showers and icy patches are likely to cause travel disruption.
This warning will begin at 5pm this evening (March 9), and conclude at 10am tomorrow morning (March 10).
Met Office forecasters have given the following reason for the new warning: "Snow and hail showers will continue to affect parts of northern and eastern Scotland, with further accumulations of 2-5 cm possible in some places.
"Icy stretches are also expected on untreated roads, particularly during hours of darkness."
What to expect from the new weather alert
Edinburgh has been warned to expect the following from the snow and ice alert:
- Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
- Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
- Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
Local areas affected by the new weather warning
- Edinburgh
- East Lothian
- Midlothian Council
- West Lothian
What was Edinburgh's original weather alert?
Originally, there was a yellow weather warning for heavy snow set in place for Edinburgh from 7am this morning (March 9), running until 2pm on Friday afternoon (March 10).
Pressure heading through the UK meant that heavy snow was expected in local areas of Edinburgh, and even more so in higher grounds across the capital.
