Met Office reveals exact two hours when weather will be at its worst in Wales and this is where will be hit hardest

Strong winds and some local flooding could hit Wales on Thursday, with a Met Office yellow weather warning in place for wind and rain. Welsh forecaster Derek Brockway said an active front moving eastwards today would bring a short spell of heavy/torrential rain lasting around two hours.

The worst of the weather for Wales seems to be between noon and 2pm as the weather front moves from west to east. He said hail and thunder were possible with strong and squally winds, and then behind the rain it will brighten up with sunshine and scattered blustery showers. You can follow live updates throughout the day here.

The Met Office weather warning for wind and rain covers the whole of Wales and is in place from 10am until 7pm. You can get more weather news and other story updates straight to your inbox by subscribing to our newsletters here.

Forecasters have warned there may be impacts to road, rail, air and ferry transport, with flooding possible in homes and businesses. Gusts of up to 70mph along parts of the coast are forecast, while exposed areas and higher ground are also set to be affected, particularly in Anglesey and Gwynedd.

Met Office meteorologist Ellie Wilson said: "The strongest winds will be on the western coasts, with some pretty strong gusts of 40 to 50mph inland, with the possibility of 60 to 70mph gusts at the coasts."

The Met Office Wales forecast for Thursday said: "A fairly dry start with a few isolated showers. A squally band of rain will arrive from the west, reaching west Wales by late morning and pushing quickly eastward as scattered showers follow. Strong winds throughout, particularly on the coasts. Maximum temperature 12 °C..

"Frequent blustery showers through the evening, but these becoming more isolated and restricted to the west by dawn. Strong winds easing overnight. Minimum temperature 3°C." It comes after thunderstorms hit parts of the country on Wednesday night, shaking houses, causing power cuts and leaving roads flooded.

A tornado brought down a row of trees on the A470 near Builth Wells. The main road between Builth Wells and Erwood remained closed on Thursday morning as the clear-up operation continues.
