But what does this mean for you and what areas will be impacted? Here's what the Met Office has to say...

When is the yellow weather warning in place?

The Met Office warning will be in place from 4pm today (December 8) until 12pm on Friday (December 8).

Which areas will be impacted?

Two of the Lothians will be hit, with areas such as Dunbar and Bonnyrigg now covered in yellow on the weather map.

The weather warnings cover much of Scotland, as shown below, with Peebles, Kelso and Eyemouth also set to be impacted.

This means that the following regions and local authorities will be impacted:

  • East Lothian
  • Midlothian
  • Scottish Borders

What does the yellow weather warning mean?

If your area is under the weather warning, it is likely, according to the Met Office, that you will face "some disruption" which will be "due to icy surfaces."

The Met Office extended the weather warning. (Met Office.)

They explain: "Frequent wintry showers running down the east coast are likely to fall on frozen surfaces in places, leading to the formation of icy patches. These showers are likely to fall as snow on high ground, with the potential for a few centimetres to accumulate in places."

The Met Office say you should expect the following:

  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
