Nottinghamshire has endured a wide range of weather on Easter Monday, April 10, with thunder, hail, torrential rain and blue skies all being reported. The changeable weather is due to continue throughout this week - with some wintry showers even being forecast for Wednesday, April 12.
But according to the Met Office's long-range forecast, we could soon be in for a taste of summer, Derbyshire Live reports. It shows that temperatures could be well above the average as we move from April to May.
Temperatures for April usually come out at around 10C for England. The Met Office issues long-range forecasts all the time, with the caveat that the weather is notoriously difficult to predict with much certainty into the future.
Between April 14-23 the forecast states: "The best of any dry interludes along with lighter winds predicted in the south and east. Warming up a little through the weekend to above-average temperatures for most by Sunday.
"Further into the period, the trend is towards less unsettled weather more widely, with increasing drier spells. Probably feeling quite pleasant in sunshine by day, but some chilly nights."
Later on, between April 24 and May 8, the forecast is more positive, with the Met Office saying: "Confidence in the forecast is fairly low for the end of April and early May. In general, there is a greater chance of more settled weather dominating during this period, maintaining the likelihood of morning fog patches and late-season night frosts.
"However, there is also a chance of seeing some unsettled or changeable spells of weather too. Temperatures are most likely to be above average overall for the time of year."
