The Met Office said: "Bands of heavy showers and thunderstorms will move quickly northwards this morning. Not everywhere will see these, but where they do occur, 20 to 30 mm of rain is possible within an hour, and perhaps as much as 40 mm in a few places.
"Lightning will be an additional hazard. Rain will continue this afternoon but become less intense."
The Met Office additionally say that here is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds. Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus service.
Spray and sudden flooding could also lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures, and there is also a slight chance that power cuts may occur and service to some businesses across the region may be lost.
The stormy weather comes after a low pressure system which looks set in stone over the next couple of days. It has came to fruition via the jet stream spanning the Atlantic Ocean, bringing wind and rain while bolstering temperatures in parts of Europe.
The unsettled weather is being caused by a low pressure system that is showing little signs of moving over the coming days.
