Met Office issues yellow weather warning ahead of heavy rain and thunder in Scotland

THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for parts of Scotland.

Heavy rain, wind and thunderstorms are expected to hits parts of Scotland on Monday.

The following areas are currently covered by the warning:

  • North Ayrshire
  • East Ayrshire
  • South Ayrshire
  • East Renfrewshire
  • Renfrewshire
  • Inverclyde
  • South Lanarkshire
  • West Dunbartonshire
  • Argyll and Bute

Residents are warned to expect some disruption with wet roads expected to extend journey times.

Some homes could also be at risk of flooding.

The warning states: “A slow-moving band of rain is expected to affect western, central and southwestern Scotland on Monday.

“Widely 20-40 mm of rain may fall within the warning area, but 50-75 mm is likely to fall over the higher ground of Lochaber, Argyll, the Trossachs and perhaps also Dumfries and Galloway.

“Strong and gusty southerly winds will accompany the rain and there is the possibility of the odd rumble of thunder too.”
