The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice for some parts of Wales, with rain, sleet and snow followed by ice patches expected in the affected areas.
The warning was issued on Sunday, March 12, and is in place from 5pm on Monday, March 13, to 10am on Tuesday, March 14. The warning reads: "Rain, sleet and snow followed by ice likely to cause some impacts to travel."
The yellow weather warning covers parts of north and mid Wales, including Wrexham, Caernarfon, Bangor, Machynlleth, Welshpool and Newtown (Powys). It comes after the forecaster warned last month that a sudden stratospheric warning was expected to hit the UK with the possibility of cold, frosty weather.

The forecaster warns that roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times expected by road, bus and train services. It states that there will be icy surfaces on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

Sunday night: "Becoming wet and windy for all this evening as the band of rain pushes northeastwards overnight. Rain could turn heavy at times with strong winds. A very mild night. Minimum temperature 6 °C."
Monday: "Often wet with periods of rain, heaviest and most persistent in the west. Some hill snow may develop in the north later in the evening. Windy with coastal gales possible. Maximum temperature 11 °C."
Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday: "Colder on Tuesday with sunny spells and occasional wintry showers. Bright start on Wednesday, but unsettled thereafter with rain, perhaps preceded by snow in places. Windy at times."
