The Met Office has issued an update on the chances that Greater Manchester will experience any snow this week.
It comes as the Met Office issues a warning of abnormally cold weather for this time of the year rolling in throughout this week and next. A chief meteorologist explained that rainy conditions will become "more wintry" as the week goes by, accompanied by a chance of snow.
The UK Health Security Agency also issued an amber level 3 cold weather alert warning the freezing temperatures can have serious negative impacts on vulnerable people's health, including older people and those with heart of lung conditions. However, while temperatures will get noticeably colder due to Arctic winds across Greater Manchester, the odds of snow will be slim, according to a senior meteorologist.

Alex Burkill, Met Office Senior Meteorologist, told the M.E.N: "It doesn’t look like much if any snow will reach Manchester this week. Our winds will move to come from a northerly direction which is why it’s going to turn so cold, but you will also be sheltered from the showers and so it will be dry.
"The winds go round to more of a north-northwesterly direction this weekend, that’s when Manchester could get a little snow. Temperatures will drop making it very cold, with daytime highs of just 2 or 3 Celsius by the end of the week and overnight lows or -6C, perhaps even colder."
So far, snow has only been forecast in the north east of Scotland, however, this doesn't mean that the average temperature across Greater Manchester will be any warmer. Currently, the Met Office is predicting that temperatures could reach as low as 1C this weekend and 0C by next Monday (December 12).
The Met Office added that temperatures will remain below average for this time of year well into next week.
