The Met Office has issued a new yellow weather warning lasting until Saturday morning highlighting the risk of icy conditions across the North East.
This sees the forecasters highlight the risk of thawing snow from Storm Larisa, which has been named by the French weather service, turning to ice over the coming hours amid freezing temperatures. The new ice warning runs from is is in addition the yellow warning set to hit on Saturday afternoon with regard to further snowfall.
The new ice warning is in effect from 9.30am on Friday until 10am Saturday. Later on Saturday, the warning of more snow will be in effect from 3pm on Saturday, March 11 until 6am on Sunday, March 12.

The new ice warning sees forecasters stating: "Ice is likely to be a hazard where snow has fallen overnight." It affects the whole of the North East as well as huge swaths of the rest of the country.
The Met Office has told the public to expect: "Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces. Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths."
The Met Office warning adds: "Whilst falling snow will clear from the south and east of the warning area in the next few hours, lying snow and ice will likely continue to be a hazard through the rest of this morning. Icy stretches should become confined to higher ground this afternoon, before temperatures fall below freezing widely this evening.
"This will lead to untreated surfaces left wet by snow melt becoming icy at all levels, with some disruption to travel likely."
The temperature in the North East overnight could hit -7 degrees Celsius, the Met Office said.
