AN amber weather warning has been issued for parts of Scotland with the Met Office warning of a “good chance some communities will be cut off”.
The forecaster said that “heavy rain developing through Monday night and Tuesday morning is likely to cause some property flooding and travel disruption”.
The amber warning covers parts of the Highlands, including Inverness, Aviemore and Kingussie.
It said to expect the following:
- Spray and flooding probably leading to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- Homes and businesses may be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
- A good chance some communities will be cut off by flooded roads
- Delays and some cancellations to train and bus services are likely
- Fast flowing or deep floodwater is likely, causing some homes and businesses to be flooded
- Power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses likely
The Amber warning will be in place from midnight on Tuesday, December 31 and last until 5pm the same day.
A yellow warning for rain and snow covering the north of Scotland as well as Glasgow and Edinburgh is in place until 11.59pm on Hogmanay.
A yellow wind warning covering the south of Scotland as well as Glasgow and the capital will be in place from 7am until 11pm on Tuesday.
Writing on Twitter/X, John Swinney said: “This is a significant update of the weather warning for the Highlands and Eileen Siar to amber level.
“Please follow all advice and stay safe.”
