SCOTS have been warned to brace for potential winds of up to 80mph and “danger to life from flying debris”.
The Met Office issued the warning on Sunday as it said a strong storm is expected to sweep much of the UK later in the week.
Weather experts warned that gusts of 50-60mph winds in inland areas, and 65-80mph winds on the coasts, would be a possibility from 10am on Wednesday September 27 until 7am the next day.
The Met Office has put out a yellow weather warning for that time period covering regions including Central Tayside and Fife, Grampian, Highlands, Na h-Eileanan Siar, South West Scotland, the Borders, the Lothians, and Strathclyde.

There is also a yellow weather warning in place for the remainder of the weekend for Glasgow, Dumfries and Galloway, and parts of Argyll and Bute, Highland Perthshire, and Aberdeenshire due to predictions of heavy rain.
In a video, the Met Office said: “We could potentially see some very heavy rain and also some very strong rains.
“There is uncertainty, but we are keeping a very close eye on the forecast."
It added elsewhere: “A deep area of low pressure is expected to approach southwest Ireland early on Wednesday, and track across northern parts of the UK before clearing early Thursday.”
The Met Office says that the parts of the UK issued with yellow weather warnings for strong winds can expect:
- There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris
- There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
- There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
- Longer journey times are likely, or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected
- Some roads and bridges are likely to close.
- There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties; with a chance of some minor flooding of coastal roads
