Met Office issues amber weather warning with flooding expected

AN amber weather warning has been issued for parts of Scotland this Sunday with “significant” disruption expected.

The Met Office issued an amber weather warning for parts of western Scotland this Sunday.

It will come into force from midnight on December 17 and last until 11.59pm on the same day.

It comes after a yellow weather warning was already issued for much of the north west which is in force from 6pm on Saturday until 6am on Monday, December 18.

With regards to an amber warning, the Met Office said to expect:

  • A slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses
  • Spray and flooding probably leading to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • Fast flowing or deep floodwater is likely, causing danger to life
  • Delays and some cancellations to train and bus services are likely
  • Homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
  • A good chance some communities will be cut off by blocked roads

The amber warning covers a large portion of the west of Scotland, including Fort William and Ullapool.
