Snow has hit Greater Manchester today after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning. Snow is forecast to hit parts of Greater Manchester with an ice warning issued for the whole of the region earlier this morning, with flurries falling across the region on Monday morning.

The ice warning which covers the whole region - as well as Scotland, Northern Ireland, and parts of Wales - is due to lapse later this morning, but a new snow and ice warning has been issued this morning for 24 hours from midday today. The warning comes as a cold snap hits the UK, with temperatures dropping to below 0C in many areas. The weather warning for snow and ice - which covers the western towns of the region - said: "Snow showers will become more frequent through Monday, continuing to feed in on northwesterly winds overnight.

"Accumulations of a couple of centimetres are possible at low levels, with higher ground expected to see 5-10 cm in places. In addition, icy stretches are likely to form following showers."

Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Helen Caughey, said: "After a spell of wet and mild weather to start 2023, a brief cold spell will change the feel of our weather across the UK for a few days next week. As a northerly flow establishes, we’ll see temperatures decline with overnight frosts returning and the chance of wintry showers in the north. It will certainly feel cold in all regions too, with the northerly winds creating a notable windchill."
