Met Office forecasts when snow and sub-zero temperatures will hit Wales

The Met Office has forecast when sub-zero temperatures and snow will hit Wales this week. It comes as the weather agency has issued a yellow weather warning for snow in some parts of the UK.

The weather agency says Scotland could see some snow showers on Wednesday as temperatures fall, and some drifting and blizzard conditions could be seen with the strong northerly winds. But temperatures are also expected to drop across the UK, including Wales.

A spokesperson for the Met Office told WalesOnline: "The focus of any snow, certainly earlier in the week, will be further north. We have a yellow weather warning out for Scotland, particularly over the northern parts. As we move into Thursday, there is a chance that we could see some snow showers feeding along the west coast of Wales through the early hours.

"It's going to be a cold night as well, so it could cause some tricky conditions in terms of frozen surfaces on Thursday morning. It's not likely to be a significant accumulation, but we could see one or two snow showers popping up on the west coast."

He added that generally it will be relatively dry week in Wales, but as we move forward into Saturday there will be some precipitation moving in from the south west - however at the moment this is expected to fall as rain rather than snow.

But, according to BBC weather, freezing temperatures and snow in some parts of Wales are imminent. This is what the Met Office and BBC says about when the mercury will drop below zero and when snow might fall where you are.

Tuesday will see lows of -1°C and highs of 7°C in Cardiff, according to BBC weather, and the sub-zero temperatures will persist until Sunday, dropping to -3°C on Thursday and Friday.
