Snow is likely to hit the north of England by the middle of next week, according to expert weather forecasters.
Some of the region's highest points are expected to get a smattering of snow as early as this weekend, but as it gets colder throughout next week, it is predicted to be more widespread.
The Met Office's long range weather forecast for December 8 to December 17 reads: "It will likely continue to be cold with further showers for much of the UK, which will fall as sleet and snow across the north leading to some accumulations of snow across higher ground, showers falling as rain or sleet more likely in parts of the south.
