Met Office forecasts more bad weather to come as heavy rain set for next week

The wet start to March looks set to continue with yet more wintry weather set to batter Wales next week. The Met Office forecast shows that after a week of weather warnings for ice and rain, the country will only receive a brief respite over the weekend before the bad weather returns again.

According to the forecaster, after a dry Saturday, heavy rain is going to return on Sunday ahead of the week ahead, with unsettled weather expected. Temperatures are expected to be averge for the time of year - if not higher - but there will be high winds, especially at nightime.

On Wednesday between eight and 10mm of rainfall is expected to fall per hour on higher ground in parts of Wales, making way for a damp end of the week. The weekend weather forecast from the Met Office for Sunday to Tuesday reads: "Starting fine on Sunday with rain arriving later. Cloudy with rain, heavy at times on Monday. Sunny spells and scattered showers on Tuesday. Temperatures near or above average. Turning windy."

The long range forecast from the Met Office for Tuesday, March 21 to Thursday March 30 says: "Initial cloud and rain clearing northeastwards on Tuesday, likely followed by sunny spells interspersed with showers, these perhaps heavy at times especially in the north. Further cloud and rain may then spread from the west later. Locally strong winds possible, with a low risk of coastal gales.

"The rest of the period will likely be characterised by continued unsettled weather, with cyclonic conditions expected to dominate initially, bringing rain and showers, these heavy at times. The west seeing the most precipitation and the east staying comparatively drier. Windy at times, with a continued risk of coastal gales. Wintry showers may return at times in the north later, however precipitation totals generally less here than in the south. Temperatures generally normal to mild, however brief widely cold spells are probable."
