Met Office forecast: Rain could put dampener on Bristol Coronation celebrations

Rain and thunder is forecast to put a dampener on Bristol Coronation celebrations this weekend. The Met Office is predicting "unsettled" conditions as the city prepares for the Coronation of the King.

The national weather forecaster believes rain will sweep across the South West region on Saturday (May 6), as well as Sunday (May 7). These showers could be thundery at times, the Met Office has warned.

It is currently forecast to remain dry for most areas of Bristol on Saturday morning. However, showers are predicted to hit the city around Saturday lunchtime and afternoon, as well as into the evening.

The Met Office long-range forecast for the UK states: "On Friday, a band of rain will slowly edge north eastwards across the UK, closely followed by brighter conditions with showery outbreaks developing, some of these heavy, perhaps thundery. Far north/north eastern parts staying mostly dry, although feeling much cooler here in stronger winds.

"Through the weekend, southern parts are more likely to see unsettled conditions with fresh winds, rain and showers. These could perhaps heavy and thundery, while the north is likely to remain drier."
