Cold weather has hit Nottingham and the county. There have been weather warnings, flurries of snow, frozen windscreens and minus temperatures. While waking up to frosty scenes can be a delight, extremely cold weather can cause tremendous disruption and trigger some health issues for those struggling to heat their homes.
With lows of -5C forecast for Nottingham tomorrow, Wednesday, December 14, just when will the extreme cold snap end? The Met Office keeps a keen eye on changing weather patterns and is one step ahead when it comes to forecasting the conditions to come.
According to their experts, we could get some respite from the cold by the weekend as temperatures start to rise, but on the downside it could turn to more unsettled with rain, sleet and perhaps even snow forecast.
Here's what the Met Office is forecasting.
Tuesday, December 13
Highs of 1 degree and lows of -3C. However, the 'feels like' temperature is a shivering -6C by 10pm tonight. There is no rain forecast for today but it will be cloudy.
Wednesday, December 14
Highs of 1C and lows of -3. Early morning and late night will see the thermometer drop to -2C and -3C. Daytime temperatures stay at a more reasonable 0 degrees to 1C, however, watch out for that 'feels like' temperature again. The Met Office is predicting another -6C today.

Thursday, December 15
A clear day on Thursday won't help temperatures - highs of 3 degrees and lows of -4C are forecast. Worst to come are the 'feels like' figures which drop to the lowest of the forecast so far, -7.
Friday, December 16
Another cold day is in store with lows of -4C at 6am in the morning. However, by noon it could have warmed up to 1 degree and the forecast indicates the daytime temperature could hit a high of 2C in some parts of Notts. Again, that 'feels like' temperature provides an icy blast with a low of -7C and only makes it up to -2C around lunchtime.
Saturday, December 17
While Saturday is forecast to feel chilly, the actual temperature should reach highs of 4C and lows of 0. The Met Office forecasts "Cloudy changing to sunny intervals by lunchtime".
Sunday, December 18
Sunday could see an end to the current series of minus figures. Today's high reaches a welcome 7 degrees with lows of 4C. Even the 'feels like' temperature picks up after lunchtime today with a high of 6 degrees by the evening.
Monday December 19
For Monday there isn't a minus figure in sight. Highs of 11 degrees today and lows of 3 degrees, although it is predicted to be overcast.
