The Met Office has extended a weather warning as gusts of up to 65mph are expected to cause major disruption in the North East.
The leading meteorologists have forecast that a spell of very windy weather is expected to spread across parts of Northern England including the North East, moving in from the Irish Sea on Wednesday (November 2).
This comes after a night of strong wings and heavy rain in parts of the region, marking a blustery start to November.
The yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office is in place between 7am and 8pm on Wednesday, November 2.
According to the Met Office, the following conditions are expected overall during what will potentially be a rather disrupted day for many.
They warned: "A spell of very strong southerly or southwesterly winds will affect some western coastal areas during Wednesday, before spreading inland during the afternoon.
"Gusts of 55-65 mph are expected, especially in exposed coastal locations and over higher routes, with some sudden strong gusts of wind possible at times.
"Some further heavy rain is also likely during Wednesday, especially across parts of SW Scotland, Cumbria and W Wales."
The Met Office is expecting the weather to cause disruption with the wind and rain likely to cause chaos on the roads as well as some short term power outages being a possibility also.
As part of the weather warning, they warned of the following:
- Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
- Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
- Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
- Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
- It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
