A Met Office warning for snow and ice in Wales has been extended to cover a large area. The alert was updated on Monday morning to be extended southwards, meaning a large part of the county is now covered.
The yellow warning is in place from 5pm on Monday (March 13) to 10am on Tuesday (March 14).
It states: "An area of rain will turn to sleet and snow from the north, initially over Scotland, and then over northern England during Monday evening. Accumulating snow will mostly be above 200-300m, but possibly to lower levels, mainly Scotland, for a time, with 2-5 cm in places.
"This sleet and snow then clears southwards overnight allowing skies to clear and temperatures to fall sharply resulting in ice forming, particularly on untreated surfaces."
The area now covers nine counties in Wales. They are:
- Carmarthenshire
- Ceredigion
- Conwy
- Denbighshire
- Flintshire
- Gwynedd
- Isle of Anglesey
- Powys
- Wrexham.
The updated warning comes as parts of Wales are battered by high winds on Monday. More on the disruption caused here.
Strong winds caused delays for drivers on the Monday morning commute. The M48 Severn Bridge is closed in both directions and there are reports of fallen trees in Carmarthenshire, Monmouthshire and Neath Port Talbot.
There were delays of around 25 minutes on the M4 eastbound around Newport with a warning of poor driving conditions and the bridge closure causing delays.
A Met Office warning for high winds has been issued for eastern parts of Wales. The forecasting agency announced a yellow wind warning that is in place from 10am on Monday until 6pm. More details here.
The Met Office forecast for Wales today says: "Cloudy with outbreaks of rain throughout the day, heavy at times and turning more persistent during the afternoon. A mild day, but very blustery with strong winds and coastal gales. Maximum temperature 13 °C."
