Met Office declares hottest day of the year snatching Saturday's title amid 24.4C high

Today has been declared the hottest day of the year so far with the mercury reaching 24.4C.

The Met Office said the temperature was recorded in Plymouth, narrowly topping the 24.3C recorded yesterday in Bramham, West Yorkshire.
