Icelandic winds are set to make temperatures plunge in the UK this week, and after a lull mid-week, high winds and heavy rain are being forecast for Friday. Forecasters have said that ex-Hurricane Fiona which hit parts of Canada on Saturday with 93mph winds, is not heading to the UK but has had an effect on high pressure over Iceland.
It means a strengthening northerly wind will make it feel a lot colder across the UK at the start of the week, but it is the end of the week that could bring high winds and heavy rain.
BBC weather forecaster Darren Bett says: "It is getting windy on Sunday, and it is going to be a windy day on Monday , and it will feel a lot colder too. The reason for the change is because of a deep low near Iceland. The winds continue to strengthen overnight, and we have got a northerly wind on Monday with winds coming from Iceland.

"Essentially, Monday is sunshine and showers, and everywhere will feel colder in the wind. The winds should ease after Monday, and temperatures will recover by day, but it is still going to be cold by night.
"We have got sunshine and showers, and we end the week with more wet and windy weather. It starts to quieten down during the middle part of the week, it is not as windy on Wednesday , there will be more sunshine around and fewer, lighter showers. Around Wednesday and Thursday, the jet stream winds, the upper level winds, are very light, and not much is happening.
"But as we head towards the end of the week, there is a much stronger jet that is propagating across the Atlantic, and that is going to pick up an area of low pressure, and develop and deepen it., strengthen the winds and that wet and windy weather is going to push its way into the UK to end the week. Not a very nice day on Friday , rain could be very heavy as it moves eastward, with winds gale force at times."
The Met Office forecast for Wales says that Monday will be a "windy day, especially along windward coasts", with a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers.
It is going to feel a bit colder in the wind, with a maximum temperature of 16°C.
The outlook for Tuesday to Thursday says: "Changeable with the some spells of rain or showers, as well as some drier and brighter interludes. Some chilly nights. Breezy on Tuesday but lighter winds on Wednesday and Thursday."
