Met Eireann forecaster Matthew Martin told Newstalk that things are not looking good. He said: "It's really going to deteriorate later this evening and tonight - and then the weekend is looking quite wet at times.
"Whilst there's going to be heavy rain at times, there are going to be decent dry periods as well. So it's not all bad - but there is that possibility that there could be some localised flooding.
"It certainly is not ideal conditions".
"Obviously you're going to have to be prepared for all eventualities when you head down to Stradbally," Martin said. "It's just bad timing, I guess", he added.
Here is the forecast for this weekend:
Today:
Scattered showers with possible thunder today with highest temperatures reaching 22 degrees. Tonight will be wet with heavy rain at times. Winds will be moderate to fresh and temperatures will range from 10 to 14 degrees.
