There will be sunny spells and isolated showers in Dublin this Valentine's Day.

Temperatures will be chilly throughout the day with the mercury set to stick between five and nine degrees.

The showers will be most prevalent at the start of the day before drying out this afternoon.

One weather expert has warned that Ireland could be battered by a storm later this week.

Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather said: "Looking at latest weather model charts for wind gusts on Wednesday.

"The track and intensify remains uncertain but some models bringing damaging gusts into Northwest Ireland. A busy week of weather ahead with another storm possible on Friday!"

Met Eireann's forecast for Monday read: "A mostly dry and sunny Valentine's Day with showers mostly dying out this afternoon. Sunny spells to start for Valentine's Day, there'll be isolated showers early on, with the showers mostly dying out in the afternoon. Highest temperatures 5 to 9 degrees with a fresh to strong northwest wind making it feel colder."

Tonight's forecast read: "A cold and frosty start tonight the temperatures will rise through the night as a strengthening southwest wind veers westerly overnight. Along with the wind will be heavy rain, bringing a risk of localised flooding, the rain will clear eastwards overnight, with showers following in to northern counties later."

Tuesday's forecast read: "Tomorrow, Tuesday, will have a mostly dry start with some sunshine with a moderate to fresh westerly wind backing southerly for a time. Temperatures in the afternoon will range between 5 and 8 degrees and will rise Tuesday evening with the arrival of another spell of rain in to the southwest, falling as sleet initially in the north."
