Met Eireann warns of 'bitterly cold' wintry showers as cold snap continues through weekend

Many Dubliners are waking up to freezing fog this Saturday morning and Met Eireann is predicting that there's more wintry showers on the way.

It'll be another cold day on Saturday with frost and ice lingering in parts. Patches of freezing fog may linger also, with top temperatures of just 0 to +3 Celsius in light west to northwest breezes.

According to Met Eireann forecasters, it will be "coldest where fog lingers" and it is set to be "bitterly cold by day and night". Some hail, sleet or snow showers, but a good deal of dry weather overall.

Saturday night

"Dense freezing fog will form in parts leading to impaired visibility. A widespread sharp to severe frost is expected and icy stretches. Lowest temperatures of minus 5 to zero degrees.

Sunday

"Temperatures struggling to rise above freezing for most with frost, ice and freezing fog persisting throughout the day. Mainly dry apart from isolated showers in some coastal margins. Highest temperatures of minus 2 to plus 2 degrees in light, variable breezes.

Sunday night

"Widespread frost and ice overnight with lows ranging from minus 6 to minus 2 degrees. Wintry showers of sleet and snow will move in closer to the Atlantic coast

Monday

"Remaining cold Monday as temperatures in many parts may stay below freezing. Any fog inland will likely persist. Again mostly dry with isolated wintry showers along coasts. Light easterly breezes. Very cold overnight with lows of minus 2 to minus 4 degrees causing widespread frost, ice, and freezing fog in light northeasterly breezes.

Tuesday

"Current indications have Tuesday remaining cold with temperatures remaining below freezing. Again overall dry with freezing fog patches. Light northerly breezes. "
