Met Eireann’s status yellow warning periods in place for several counties have come to an end, however the Irish forecaster says more heavy rain is on the way.
It’s not all bad news, with a major u-turn in conditions expected over the coming days as well - although a number of counties won’t benefit from the better weather.
Before the welcome change, showers will continue early tonight, with scattered outbreaks of rain pushing into western areas during the night and gradually spreading eastwards.
Some pockets of mist and fog will develop overnight in light to moderate southerly winds.
Tomorrow will be generally cloudy to start, with scattered patches of rain, but things are due to brighten up through the day with scattered showers and sunny spells developing.
There is a chance that some showers will be heavy while highest temperatures will reach 15 degrees in some areas in moderate west to southwest winds.
It looks like a good deal of dry weather is on the way for Monday with some clear spells developing overnight.
However, scattered showers will linger along western coasts and lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees are expected in a light to moderate southerly breeze.
Tuesday will be a dry day for many in the early afternoon with sunny spells, but scattered showers will continue in the south and west.
It will then turn cloudier towards evening as a spell of rain spreads from the south, possibly turning heavy at times.
Wednesday will be a blustery day with scattered showers, most frequent and heaviest over the western half of the country with longer dry and sunny spells elsewhere.
Thursday will see showers or longer spells of rain developing through the day, with the chance of some heavier bursts.
However, it will be very mild with highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees in moderate southeasterly winds.
Heading into the weekend then, the Irish forecaster currently predicts things “staying mild with rain and showers at times, alongside possibly breezy conditions.”
