Met Eireann warn Storm Eunice may be 'multi-hazard' weather event

Met Eireann has issued an urgent 71-hour weather advisory as Storm Eunice is set to hit Ireland.

The national forecaster warned the storm may be "a multi-hazard and disruptive event with damaging winds, heavy rain, and snow possible".

Storm Dudley will track to the north of Ireland on Wednesday afternoon and evening. Following this Storm Eunice will hit Ireland later on Thursday night and during Friday.

The advisory is valid from 4.13pm today until 3pm on Friday.

A forecaster said: "Current indications are that the strongest winds are most likely to affect southern counties and the most significant falls of snow are most likely over central and northern parts of the country with locally blizzard conditions possible for a time and disruption to travel."

Additionally, they said warnings will be issued tomorrow morning and updated on Thursday morning.

There are currently multiple weather warnings in place for the whole island.

A nationwide Status Yellow wind warning is valid from 12pm tomorrow until 12 pm on Thursday.

Additionally the UK Met Office has issued an orange wind warning for Antrim and Derry, and a yellow wind alert for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone, and Derry.

Tomorrow's forecast says it's going to be a windy day with spells of rain and showers moving eastwards across the country

Winds will be the strongest in the west and north of the country but temperatures will be mild ranging from 10 to 13 degrees.

Tomorrow night will be very wet and windy with powerful gale-force winds affecting the far north of the country with blustery westerly winds elsewhere.

The forecaster continued: "Outbreaks of rain or sleet will become more persistent in the north of the country, but will gradually ease further south with lows overnight of 2 to 4 degrees.

"Stormy conditions are possible for a time around western and northern coastal areas with the risk of some coastal flooding from wave overtopping possible."

Thursday will also be another wet day with plenty of showers in the coastal areas but it will be a little drier and brighter further east however with highs of 7 to 11 degrees.
